Burda 7045 in Italian Shirting

Way back in December 2014, I made this shirt for Courteney's boyfriend for Christmas.  The fabric and trim both came from The Remnant Warehouse in Sydney.  When I bought the fabric online, I had envisioned another shirt the same for her brother, but apparently it didn't fit with his style.  All was not lost however as my husband quickly claimed the fabric as his own.  Every time I looked like making something since then, and I say every time, my husband asked about his shirt.  You wouldn't  believe how much that would annoy me after over two years!   I thought he may at some point give up and stop asking but no, so before Christmas last year, I finally did something about it.  It isn't that I didn't want to make the shirt, there just always seemed to be a more interesting project that jumped the queue.

I waited until he went away for work one week and set to work.  It wasn't a difficult task, given I have made him a shirt before.  I used Burda 7045, like I had done previously and because I had already made it, there was no need for fitting.  The fabric is a stretch cotton Italian shirting so is quite forgiving fit wise.

I really like this pattern, as there is the opportunity for a fitted style or by leaving out the front and or back darts, an unfitted style as well.  This time I chose to put the darts in the back only, making this shirt semi fitted.

Part of the deal though, when my family get something made, they need to get a photo taken for the blog.  Photo taking is not high on my husbands list of priorities and I didn't push the issue because as I let him know, unless he posed for a photo there would be no more shirts.  Given that this shirt took two years from planning to reality, he probably didn't rate his chances very high anyway.

And don't underestimate him... I'm sure he'll be looking for his next one soon since he made it to the blog lol

  2. Very nice shirt and beautifully sewn. The contrasting collar and cuffs look great. Funny how they don't like modeling for the blog. My hubby is the same.

  3. beautifully made! My husband doesn't mind posing in the things I make for him, but doesn't want his face on the internet any more... we have both of us received negative comments from anonymous trolls in the past on my blog, and since he has been recognised out in the wild as well I don't show his face :)

    1. Thankfully I haven't but I can see why you would be a bit hesitant after a experience like that.
