Waterfall Jacket

After the 'Superman Fiasco', I was left scratching my head about what to wear to the impending Christmas function.  I didn't want to wear one of my very much thrashed work dresses but wanted something that wouldn't slot into the white elephant category either.

Enter this dress, which while I love it, had remained unworn.  I felt
thought that I needed something else.  McCall's 6611 had been on my planned makes for some time since both Lizzie and Leith made their fabulous versions.  The only stumbling block was which fabric to choose.  Sensible me would have chosen black, but I realised that I had the perfect shade of blue crepe in my stash to go with this dress.  Better still, it was a piece my mother gave me and was free!

Excited about my revelation, I set to work.  I knew I didn't want this in a double layer as the pattern suggests because it would be too warm for a summer jacket, so lining it was the obvious choice.

I had some white with blue spot satin lining left over from another project which became my lining of choice.  I made the jacket to size 10 and actually changed nothing.  I am really stoked with the finished product and the icing on the cake came with these fabulous matching leather sandals, that I found on Styletread.

Here is my dress and jacket worn in situ last weekend on the balcony of our hotel  in front of the Auckland Sky Tower.    In case you were wondering, this was as far as I would go on this balcony on the 8th floor before vertigo set in, hence the bracing pose!

  1. I wouldn't have been standing all that far out on the balcony either. Your outfit looks fantastic. That is a wonderful blue on you and goes beautifully with your dress. I hope that the party was fun!

  2. I'm another who gets vertigo on small (or large) balconies! Fab print on your dress, and the little jacket is great with it. Oh, those shoes! You look stunning and so put together! Good job!

  3. Using the blue was a good choice, it looks really good on you. That pattern has been patiently waiting in my stash so it's great to see how well your version turned out.

    1. I really recommend this pattern. I think the jacket would look equally good with jeans and a casual top.

  5. Your outfit is totally work party worthy a seriously lovely outfit. One of my Xmas work parties was at the races and a great chance to wear a dress I had only worn once. It has a similar neckline to yours .thanks for your comment too. I made the long sleeve top months ago and just now catching .up with blogging. Having 4 jobs and selling and moving houses sucks - really impacts on sewing time.

  6. Great outfit. The jacket is really cute and I like the shoes, dress and jacket all being different colours but going together so well. I would be with you on solid ground too - I hate heights!

    1. It is funny, before blogging, I probably would not have considered wearing so many colours at once. Give me solid ground as well. I can do heights as long as I have tera firma under my feet.

    1. Thank you and yes I did! Unbelievably, this was my first time in Auckland in about 20 years! Hopefully it will not be another 20 years before I go back.
