Seemed like a good idea at the time!

I came across a piece of beige corduroy in the op shop that I bought to make a skirt.  I fancied a button front skirt but these are prone to gaping across my stomach so I decided to make mine a faux button front.

The pattern I used was my trusty Vogue 1247, adapted of course.  I put in a zip in the back and extended the front to include my faux placket.  I lengthened it to sit just below my knee.  The lining I used was a piece of pongee that also came from the op shop.

The skirt was a pretty simple make and nearly got finished in time for winter when doubts started to creep in.  You see, I don't wear skirts at home, instead preferring jeans and shorts depending on the season.

Because the skirt is made of corduroy it really isn't work appropriate except maybe on casual Friday.  Unusually for me this skirt became a ufo for well over a month.  Eventually though it had given me the stink eye long enough and I took it and my jeans buttons to the garage and took to it with a hammer.  Phew!  Job done!  I will hang it up now and see if it gets worn next winter.

  1. We all have those 'meh' projects, don't we? Maybe it will seem more appealing next winter.

  3. What a great idea to have faux buttons at the front. I am wanting to make a denim short skirt for Summer but my tummy is very potty. If I use a back zipper I can interface the front... just thinking aloud...
I hope you were it next year, it does look smart.

    1. The magic closet! I like that! In my case it will probably be the magic plastic bin of unseasonal clothes!

  6. Super skirt, I've just started thinking about warmer makes and this would be perfect and could copy by hacking a pattern. Great idea to make it a faux placket.

    1. Thanks! I do wear quite a few skirts for work but I just find pants more comfortable for knocking around the house.
