I Have A Dilemma

However, before I tell you about my dilemma, let me show you something that makes me a little more happy.

Before our camping trip, I decided that I desperately needed some long sleeve tee shirts.  While my need was there, I doubt in hindsight that I needed them desperately.  I rapidly cut out several in flurry of activity and made them all up.  This is where my happy accident occurred.  The orange and black tee was cut using narrow striped fabric before I realised I actually had the same fabric in a wider width in my collection.  I rapidly changed my mind and decided it was necessary to combine the two different width stripes into one tee which is why I have a short sleeved version as well.  All of these fabrics were purchased at Cotura Fashions end of season sale.  Let me tell you though, it was quite a wrench to use any of these fabrics because they were all in 2m lengths and I really hate to cut into a long length for something as small as a tee shirt but at the end of the day, how many dresses do I need right?

Once again I used Jalie 3352 and the neckline of Tessuti Alexa and I squared off the hem.  The fabrics were all different weights so some required running in to get the desired fit.

I finished all of the tees with cover stitched hems and sleeve hems.

Oh and one last photo with Mt Cook in the distance!

I don't usually discuss my current projects before they are complete but this one I am finding completely bothersome.  I am currently part way through completing a Style Arc Ziggi Jacket in leather no less.  Because the leather is quite light, I have interlined it with flannel.  The problem arose when I had just completed the sleeves.  I have managed, and I have no idea how, to put the sleeve zips on the inside seam of the sleeves instead of the outside seam .  What to do?  Do I spend hours remaking the sleeves and waste more leather or do I just accept my mistake as a design feature and try to build a bridge?  What would you do?

  1. That's a great run of tees! They all look terrific. Now as to your question regarding the jacket...that is a tough one! I'd probably tell myself to build a bridge and embrace the design feature. Honestly, will anyone else even know - and actually, the zips will be easier to use on the inside seam instead of the outside seam. But will you get annoyed every time you look at it? Maybe just go with the flow then use any other leather for another garment.

    1. Thank you Lara! I was probably secretly hoping someone would make me see sense. The other downside of remaking the sleeves, is, I doubt I could have given 100% to the remaking of the sleeves and this could result in a less than perfect result anyway. My daughter, who incidentally pointed out my error, suggested I should live with it. She did laugh at me which didn't help the cause any.

  2. Strike your daughter's laugh out of your memory and make your sleeve zips a feature.
I love sleeves with zips, no matter if they're placed outside or in.

    1. I should, shouldn't I? It was a bit rich given the reason she doesn't sew for herself is because she doesn't want daily reminders of imperfections. I can now report, that I am slowly building a bridge. I have set in the sleeves and they have been done without incidence and to my exacting standard so I should take that as a positive sign.

  3. Accept the design feature. No one will know unless you tell them. You are a style leader. A fashion forward designer! Aren't all sleeve zippers facing in these days??

    1. Christy, I like your attitude. Mine will definitely have a point of difference. I think I am slowly coming around!

  4. I agree with the other wise ladies. Leave the zips where they are. No one will ever notice and you will have the added bonus of seeing your beautiful workmanship when you look down at your wrists. I find myself twisting my arms around to admire my Ziggi zips when no one is looking. Maybe I'm just a zip tragic! Can't wait to see your jacket.

  5. My initial reaction, before reading anyone else's replies, was to leave them! I see I'm in good company. :) I quite like them inside anyway. Great looking tees!

    1. I am pleased the response has been overwhelmingly to leave them. It makes the decision much easier.

  6. Great looking t-shirts! I love how you have combined the different stripes. It's fun to see wear you went camping too. I'm not sure what I would do regarding the zippers. I think if the placement bothered me enough that I wouldn't wear the jacket, then I'd go ahead and change them. A leather jacket is something you will probably have a very long time and you may want the sleeves just right. Aloha!

    1. I agree with the perfection. I aim for that every time but in this situation I have decided to leave them. It is amazing what a difference a few days makes. I can now live with them even though they wouldn't have been my first choice. Now I must remember to make the lining to match!
