End of April Round Up
I have been putting off writing up this post all week and am not really sure whether I want to write it at all. I am a very private person so over sharing on the internet is something that I am not comfortable with. I have however got to know quite a few bloggers since beginning this blog hence my decision to share a small part of what goes on behind the scenes. It is a good thing I am not a superstitious person either because as I typed this, a sizeable earthquake came through. Anyho, I am very late with my end of April round up because my father passed away last week after a short illness. Despite knowing that his time was relatively near, the rug was still very much pulled out from under my feet. My father lived locally so played a huge role in our lives. He was an incredibly clever and creative person and has helped us immensely over the years with renovations to our house and passing along his knowledge along the way. If ever I had an issue, he was my first port of call. Despite my mother also having a creative gene, my father is the person that I credit my creativity, determination and drive to. I hope I do as good a job passing down my knowledge to my own children. Writing about sewing clothes seems quite superficial at this time but I hope that in doing so I also get to honour his memory and the can do attitude he has passed on to me.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Even when you're expecting it, it still knocks the wind out of you. Be gentle with yourself and allow time to grieve.
ReplyDeleteThank You Judie!
DeleteSo sorry to hear about your loss. I was touched by the things you shared here about him. Strength and peace to you.
ReplyDeleteThank You Renee!
DeleteIt's quite amazing how close you can feel to people you connect with online, but never actually meet. I love reading your blog and getting to know you through the snippets of family life you post, not to mention the incredible scenery you have around you. It is not superficial to carry on your life and your sewing and post whatever you feel like. I hope you are doing OK xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Megan! Getting back to my normal routine has certainly helped.
DeleteI am sorry to hear about your Dad - no matter what it always seems too early for them to go. Your Father would want you to keep on enjoying life - don't feel guilty about the blogging. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThanks Janine! At 74 years old he said himself he had drawn the short straw but MND is a cruel disease so it was a relief he didnt suffer for long.
DeleteHi Andrea The tremor last night was a bit of a wakeup call again, wasnt it. I was sitting on the floor sorting out patterns and material and next minute everything around me is rattling again. Makes you realise how precious life is. So sorry to hear about the passing of your Dad. Just keep remembering the happy times you spent together and the loving memories will get you through this hard time. Thinking of you.
DeleteIt is funny how quickly these days we move on from earthquakes though isn't it? I rang my mother to see if she was okay and she asked me what earthquake! I am really not sure how she missed it!
DeleteI feel for you, and you are very brave talking about personal things on the internet. How many times I have written then deleted!! Fathers and daughters are a special bond and Im sure you will have many treasured memories that will cherish and make you smile. As a bargain girl I like how you price up your projects. great idea
ReplyDeleteYou are not the only one who has written and deleted, I have done that many a time! This time though by not saying anything I also felt a little like I was trivialising it. I guess the trick is to hit somewhere in the middle.
DeleteHe'll never be replaced and I can see you have his smarts and creativity. I'm sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteThanks Maria! It would be nice to think I was as clever but my kids are very good at keeping me grounded.
DeleteA lovely tribute to your father Andrea and you are certainly blessed to have inherited his creativity, determination and drive. I am sure he would have wanted you to continue living your life, doing what you love. I hope you find comfort in your sewing. You have made some lovely garments in April.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jean! It certainly makes you take stock and realise not to take your health for granted.
DeleteWords are very inadequate but it distresses me to hear your sad news. What a gaping hole this will leave in all your lives - he sounds like the best of fathers, how lucky you were to have him so nearby. My thoughts are with you, I hope you're doing ok today...
ReplyDeleteThanks Pauline! He will be very much missed but life must go on and the man who wanted a telegram from the queen, would certainly want it to.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear of your Dads passing. My Dad died between the first and second big Chch quakes, so for me they will also be interlinked. I love reading your blog and seeing your photo shoots around Canterbury (I live in Melbourne) as it brings me home. Thank you for sharing. Kia Kaha.
ReplyDeleteThank you Claire! Kia Kaha was a saying that was heard a lot after the earthquakes and staying strong was certainly essential. It must have been very stressful for you.
DeleteAndrea, just read your touching post about your father. A wonderful tribute. You carry his talents into the future, as may also your children. I still talk to my mother when something comes up that we used to share! That is wonderful therapy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cherie! I have found myself doing that as well!
