Grainline Morris in Boiled Wool

For the past few winters, my collection of Grainline Morris Blazers have been in regular rotation.  They are all made of Ponte so make good in between jackets as well.  I have always secretly wanted a boiled wool version for those very cold winter days.

Boiled wool doesn't turn up very often in the fabric shops that I frequent so when a roll of red turned up in The Fabric Store's sale, I jumped on it.  My joy however was short lived.  After I had washed it, which is something that I always do as soon as I get it home, I realised I may have washed my lovely wool on too high a heat and it had shrunk.  Boy did it shrink!  After I got over the shock and picked myself up off the floor, I headed back to The Fabric Store in hope of buying some more.  Fortunately there was still a small amount left on the roll.  This time I was very careful to wash it on a cold wash.  I must remember this if I every wash this jacket, although at this point it might be better to dry clean it.

Because the boiled wool didn't have quite the stretch of the Ponte, I opted to go up a size.  I added stretch interfacing to all the facings as per the instructions but I opted to hand stitch my facings down to keep them neat.

I am really happy with how it turned out and it has completely lived up to expectations.  I took it with me on my recent weekend in Sydney.  It was nice and cozy for the chilly mornings and folded down nicely into my bag as the day warmed up.

    1. Thank you! I am always keen to try different colours but red is a favourite that I seem to always come back to.

  2. Great looking jacket. I like boiled wool jackets too for the reasons you mentioned. They are so comfortably soft and warm.

    1. Spring can be a bit like that here too. We can get four seasons in one day until December.
