A Chrissy Pressie...
The biggest problem I have with making clothing as a gift, is knowing what size to make. This top is designed to be loose, so I felt I was quite safe in making this one the same size as my own. Now this particular tee is a triumph I feel because actually it cost me nothing but time. While Courteney was away tramping for the weekend, I very cleverly embarked on this project.
What makes this project so special is what I started with. The blue fabric is actually a new but otherwise unwanted mens tee shirt that Courteney won in a sports competition. By cutting the back out of the front and the front out of the back, I just had enough fabric for the new tee. Once again I used McCalls 6359 and cut it 12cm shorter than the pattern, like I did last time. I did not need to hem this one as I reused the hem on the original tee. I again used the same lace as Courteney's Christmas dress. I obviously bought way too much as these tops have not even made a dent in the left overs.
Just as I did in my previous versions, I raided my scraps bin to make the binding to face the neck and armhole openings.

DeleteGreat refashion -terrific to take something unwanted ( and boxy and baggy ) and turn it into such a pretty top .Also I want to say I love the PJs from the last post - I can almost feel how soft and smooth they would be from the photos. Happy new year.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I will have to do a little surgery on this top because it is just a little big under the arms. Oh well that is the risk with a surprise gift. The PJs on the other hand have been worn every day since....I am guessing she likes them!

ReplyDeleteWould you say that using a knit fabric you should use your normal size? And for a non-stretch fabric, would you go a size bigger for room?

I have made this 3 times now and each time made my regular size. It is designed to be a loose fit. If making in a woven I think I would add some width just to be sure. You can always run it in.
