Making It Work

I often find myself sucked into buying gorgeous patterns online and have them made up before I even give a thought to how well they will work in my wardrobe and with my lifestyle.  Yesterdays accounting round up made me realise how many dresses I have added to my wardrobe this year, a staggering 12.  Before I began sewing for myself again two years ago, you would be lucky to find two dresses.  I must admit though, I am a dress convert and find it far easier to throw a dress on in the morning than to try and co-ordinate tops and bottoms.

I have been inspired by Lara of Thornberry and her "What I wore" series as well as Me Made May, which I participated in for the first time in 2012.  I don't have the discipline to photograph myself every day for a year though, so I thought I would included a Making It Work series this year.  It is one thing to sew prolifically and post photos of the finished items, but I would also like to show how the items I make translate into my lifestyle. So to kick start my Making It Work posts, I thought I would do a post with photographs of me made clothing that I wore on my camping holiday.

These embroidered cotton Thurlow shorts are cool, comfortable and don't crush so became a firm favourite.

My Lycra and lace tee is loose enough to let the breeze through but I did have to be careful to make sure I put sunscreen under the lace areas.  I did not want a lace shaped sunburn tattoo!

My tankini required a little adjustment mid holiday.  I found that when wet the halter strap was too long.  It is a good thing that I keep needle and thread in the caravan for just such a wardrobe malfunction.

My Cynthia Rowley dress is my go to dress.  It is cool and comfortable and best of all, it doesn't crush.

Father Christmas gave me a mountain bike, so shorts and tee shirts featured heavily in my holiday apparel.  My Beach Bling Tee was both practical and cool for cycling.

I have a few more 'making it work' items to show you that I haven't written about yet, but I will put these up in the next few days.

    1. Sorry, I didn't include your name in the post, but I actually realised I didn't know it. I have a sister called Karen so I shouldn't forget in a hurry :). I am pleased to see that NZ isn't the only place to have dodgy internet access in camping spots!

    1. Thank you! It was born out of your 'what I wore' photos but I don't have nearly the dedication to photograph myself daily so this is my compromise.
