And Just Like That Summer Is Nearly Over

 Why is it summer just seems to pass by in what seems like one long barbecue or picnic but winter seems to last forever?  Having Christmas and New Year added into the mix make summer the busiest season both on a personal and professional front which is why there is a queue of unblogged items just waiting for the right time for me to write them up.  This dress is no exception.  It was finished before Christmas and photographed on my summer holiday to Kaiteriteri which provides an excellent opportunity and the time to get photographs done, especially given it tends to be rather a permanent fixture round my neck at Christmas anyway.


Oh how I agonized over this dress before taking any scissors to the fabric.  I just love this fabric!  It is a linen from Cotura Fashions that I picked up at the end of summer last year.  My initial plan was an Inari Tee Dress but I was reluctant to sacrifice such a lovely fabric on an unknown to me pattern so I ended up using my tried and true pattern, New Look 6145.  This dress makes the fourth time I have used this pattern.

The changes I made this time round were to add some extra ease, about 5mm in all to each side seam because of the looser weave of my linen fabric.  As usual I narrowed the neck because I do find this one runs wide.   I also added a cotton poplin lining to the body of the dress as the fabric is just a little bit sheer and I had no intention of wearing a slip with a summer dress.  I finished the dress off with shorter sleeves and added a turn back just to give an extra bit of interest to the dress.

The resulting dress is exactly as I hoped and has become a wardrobe staple for work during this summers unrelenting heat.
