End of May Wrap Up

Once again this year I participated in Me Made May.  This year is my 5th year participating.  Most of my clothing is now me made but it did present a few challenges.  At the beginning of 2016 I injured my back and I spent all of 2016 trying to get it right again.   Mid way through the year, I also injured my knee which in part was probably related to my back injury.  I think I may have kept several physio therapists in business last year.  What has all of this got to do with Me Made May?  Well, last year my exercise was limited to a small amount of walking and this resulted in some weight gain.  All of this means that I have very few skirts and pants that actually fit.  Being a stubborn person, I refuse to replace them and now that I have my health under control, and can begin exercising seriously, I hope to be able to fit them again.  Me Made May did give me the opportunity to delve into the depths of my wardrobe and give some old favourites an airing but also actually made me put some thought into my outfits each day which is something I struggle with especially during a busy working week.

One of the goals I had for 2017 was to sew more consciously.  To help me achieve this I downloaded Stylebook onto my phone and for the last six months have been logging daily what I wear.   The stats this app has produced have been quite interesting.  I don't tend to pay much attention or money for jandals (flip flops or thongs depending on what part of the world you are from).  Ironically, these have been my number one item of clothing bar none over the last six months.  The next couple of runners up are also shoes but coming in at number 4 are my Levis rub off jeans.  Number 6 is my olive culottes, number 7 is my favourite silk cotton McCall's 7284 and number 8 is also a favourite, my striped McCall's 6886 ponte dress.

Most of the last 6 months have been in summer clothes so it will be interesting to see how this evolves over the next six months.  One thing I do know, is really I have more than enough clothes!

  2. I know firsthand how awful back problems are...glad to hear you are getting better. Also glad to hear that you didn't let it get you down and prevent you from participating in MMM! Your Stylebook experiment sounds interesting.

    1. The Stylebook experiment is an interesting exercise. The biggest thing that is coming out of it, is how little I wear some of my clothes and how wasteful that is both of my time and resources. Hopefully I can make things I truly love so this waste does not continue.
